Miss Manners tells us that handwritten invitations are even more elegant and correct than the printed type. Your handwriting need not be beautiful, merely legible. The format is the same as for printed:

[name each guest, no &guest or &family stuff]

to celebrate the marriage of ...
Start scouting for some sales on good plain stationery and use that instead of invitation kits. Plain stationery is much more correct than cards decorated with flowers and flourishes.
